Attendance
The South Shore Regional School Board believes that students must be in regular attendance at school if they are to maximize their learning experience and cover the learning outcomes as prescribed in the Public School Program. Furthermore, the board realizes that it has an obligation under the Education Act ( Section 116) to monitor the attendance of students and take steps to reduce the absenteeism of students.
Acceptable Reasons for student absences include student sickness, medical appointments, and serious illness or death in the family.
Students who arrive at school after school begins must report to the office and "sign in". A corrective action may be given if a student does not have a valid reason for being late. Students who leave the school during the day are required to be signed out by an approved adult.
A written excuse is required for all absences. The excuse should include the date, the cause of the absence and must be signed by the parent/guardian. If the parent knows that their son or daughter will be absent, a telephone call to the school secretary would be appreciated. Likewise, the school may call home to check on absences and updates.
