Land Acknowledgement of Mi'kma'ki
Special events/meetings/written:
“I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but instead recognized Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.”

Pronunciation:
Mi’kma’ki – Meegmagee
Mi’kmaq/Mi’kmaw - Meegmaw
Wolastoqiyik – Woolastuk
Definitions:
Mi’kma’ki – Ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People (NS, NB, PEI, Gaspe of Quebec)
Wolastoqiyik – “People of the beautiful river” Indigenous Peoples living along the St. John River (NB)
Unceded – Never surrendered, unyielded. Refers to land and resources in the acknowledgement.
Treaty – A formally concluded and ratified agreement between nations.

Grade 6 – 9 Girls Spring League: Tuesday 530-7 is girls spring league basketball.
Grade 6-9
Monday: Last week for HB Studios for runners and LJ & TJ. Pick up at 5:30 at HB Studios. We will be taking the bus there. The bus leaves at Bayview at 3:50.
Tuesday: HJ and Hurdle practice 7am
Wednesday: Crossfit 7AM. The HJ athletes have been invited to CAMS for a mini high jump competition. We will be leaving Bayview at 2:10. Last year we did the female competition first then the male competition. If you can help with drives let Ms Davidson know.
Thursday: HJ and Hurdle practice 7am
There is also another track meet for all throws and LJ and TJ on Thursday at KES. IF you would like to go a link was emailed to your parents on Sunday.
Friday: Track practice for ALL athletes at Bayvew pick up 5pm
Elementary
Grade 2-3 Run club is Tuesday 2:15-3:00. We will meet in the gym.
Jr High
Jr. GIrls softball practice this week is Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:30-5.
Grade 7 Band There is a sectional for trumpet, trombone and bass today after school until 4:10pm.
Jazz Band Our final practice before music festival will be Wednesday at lunch. Please come to the music room as soon as lunch starts, we will finish by 1:25.
JR HIGH DANCE: There will be a junior high "glow stick" dance next Thursday (April 25) from 7-9:30pm in the cafeteria. All students from Grades 6-9 are invited to attend. The cost is $8. The song request list is posted by the junior high calendar. Jr high students - if you would like to sign a guest in to the dance, you MUST see Mr. Eason at recess (until Tuesday) to sign them in. All guests must be signed in by the end of the day Tuesday so Mr. Eason can check with other schools on the status of guests.

- Nuts/Tree Nuts: We are a Nut Aware School 🥜. If these individuals encounter a trace of any nut products, such as peanut butter, peanuts, granola bars, squares, cookies, chocolates with nuts, we are endangering lives.
- Egg Allergy: Please refrain from sending egg salad, egg salad sandwiches, and boiled eggs with your child.
- Seafood: Please refrain from sending seafood. This includes fish and isn’t limited to shellfish.
We encourage you to create an account in order to receive notices. Items you will be able to pay for online are: cafeteria meals and snacks, student supplies fee (grades P-3 and jr high), class trips, etc. Please create your account over the summer !
Food Banks/options:
BCS recognizes that this can be difficult times for families financially. Please reach out to us if you need support as we have access to services that can help students/families. If we don't have them, we can always work to point folks in the right direction.
Food Banks/options:
· Chester Foodbank open Wednesdays and will stay open as long as they have food
· Bridgewater foodbank open Tuesdays and Fridays 1-3:30pm
· Liverpool food is open as normal (Tuesdays 10-1)
· Mahone Bay Food Bank (2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:00-11:00)
