Land Acknowledgement of Mi'kma'ki
Special events/meetings/written:
“I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but instead recognized Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.”

Pronunciation:
Mi’kma’ki – Meegmagee
Mi’kmaq/Mi’kmaw - Meegmaw
Wolastoqiyik – Woolastuk
Definitions:
Mi’kma’ki – Ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People (NS, NB, PEI, Gaspe of Quebec)
Wolastoqiyik – “People of the beautiful river” Indigenous Peoples living along the St. John River (NB)
Unceded – Never surrendered, unyielded. Refers to land and resources in the acknowledgement.
Treaty – A formally concluded and ratified agreement between nations.

Jr High
Grade 7, 8, 9 Band Today is the day you are traveling to Bluenose Academy for the Lunenburg County Music Festival. We know you will try your best and be great representatives of Bayview at the event.
Grade 7 Band are to head to the music room at 9:20am and will return around 11:30am. Grade 8 and 9 Band members are to head to the music room at 11:40am and will return around 2pm. There will be cake and snacks in the music room once we are all back from Festival shortly after 2pm.
Grade 8 and 9 Band Grade 8 and 9 Band members are strongly encouraged to eat their lunch during recess time today as we will be away during regular lunch.
If you order from the cafeteria, you are to go pick up your lunch and eat it at 11:25am with the elementary students. Please let the elementary students get their food first.
Grade 8 and 9 Band members are to go to the music room at 11:40am to get their music and instrument ready to go, don't forget your vest or sweater from your locker.
JR HIGH DANCE: There will be a junior high "glow stick" dance next Thursday (April 25) from 7-9:30pm in the cafeteria. All students from Grades 6-9 are invited to attend. The cost is $8. The song request list is posted by the junior high calendar. Jr high students - if you would like to sign a guest in to the dance, you MUST see Mr. Eason at recess (until Tuesday) to sign them in. All guests must be signed in by the end of the day Tuesday so Mr. Eason can check with other schools on the status of guests.

- Nuts/Tree Nuts: We are a Nut Aware School 🥜. If these individuals encounter a trace of any nut products, such as peanut butter, peanuts, granola bars, squares, cookies, chocolates with nuts, we are endangering lives.
- Egg Allergy: Please refrain from sending egg salad, egg salad sandwiches, and boiled eggs with your child.
- Seafood: Please refrain from sending seafood. This includes fish and isn’t limited to shellfish.
We encourage you to create an account in order to receive notices. Items you will be able to pay for online are: cafeteria meals and snacks, student supplies fee (grades P-3 and jr high), class trips, etc. Please create your account over the summer !
Food Banks/options:
BCS recognizes that this can be difficult times for families financially. Please reach out to us if you need support as we have access to services that can help students/families. If we don't have them, we can always work to point folks in the right direction.

· Bridgewater foodbank open Tuesdays and Fridays 1-3:30pm
· Liverpool food is open as normal (Tuesdays 10-1)
· Mahone Bay Food Bank (2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:00-11:00)
