Land Acknowledgement of Mi'kma'ki
Special events/meetings/written:
“I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but instead recognized Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.”

Pronunciation:
Mi’kma’ki – Meegmagee
Mi’kmaq/Mi’kmaw - Meegmaw
Wolastoqiyik – Woolastuk
Definitions:
Mi’kma’ki – Ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People (NS, NB, PEI, Gaspe of Quebec)
Wolastoqiyik – “People of the beautiful river” Indigenous Peoples living along the St. John River (NB)
Unceded – Never surrendered, unyielded. Refers to land and resources in the acknowledgement.
Treaty – A formally concluded and ratified agreement between nations.

Friday, March 22 – NO SCHOOL for STUDENTS – Assessment/Evaluation Day
Elementary
P – 6 recess: 10:10 to 10:25
Grade 6 track intro will be Tuesday 2:15-3:15. Sign up in the gym.
Jr High
Jazz Band practice will be held on Tuesday during lunch this week. Members are to bring their lunch to the music room as soon as lunch starts, unless they need to pick up their food in the cafeteria. Also, please make sure that instruments are at school for this practice.
Badminton Wednesday will be the mini tournament with New Ross 3:15-5:00 and Thursday practice 3:30-5:00.
Grade 7-9 track practice is Tuesday 3:30-5:00. Sign up is in the gym. Get permission forms and schedule from Ms Davidson.
Badminton It is very important to attend practices this week as team make up is being decided.
Wednesday: Mini tournament against New Ross (this is a change from the schedule)3:30-5:00
Thursday Practice 3:30-5:00
JR HIGH DANCE: There will be a junior high dance this Thursday from 7-9:30pm in the cafeteria. The cost to attend is $8. The song request list is posted by the junior high calendar. Mr Eason still has the guest list from the cancelled dance before the break. All guests previously signed in are still on the list. If you would like to remove or add a guest you must see Mr. Eason today at recess or lunch. All guests must be signed in BY THE END OF THE DAY TODAY so Mr. Eason can check with other schools on the status of guests added to the list.

- Nuts/Tree Nuts: We are a Nut Aware School 🥜. If these individuals encounter a trace of any nut products, such as peanut butter, peanuts, granola bars, squares, cookies, chocolates with nuts, we are endangering lives.
- Egg Allergy: Please refrain from sending egg salad, egg salad sandwiches, and boiled eggs with your child.
- Seafood: Please refrain from sending seafood. This includes fish and isn’t limited to shellfish.
We encourage you to create an account in order to receive notices. Items you will be able to pay for online are: cafeteria meals and snacks, student supplies fee (grades P-3 and jr high), class trips, etc. Please create your account over the summer !
Food Banks/options:
BCS recognizes that this can be difficult times for families financially. Please reach out to us if you need support as we have access to services that can help students/families. If we don't have them, we can always work to point folks in the right direction.
Food Banks/options:
· Chester Foodbank open Wednesdays and will stay open as long as they have food
· Bridgewater foodbank open Tuesdays and Fridays 1-3:30pm
· Liverpool food is open as normal (Tuesdays 10-1)
· Mahone Bay Food Bank (2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:00-11:00)
