This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but instead recognized Mi’kmaw and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.”
Daily use:
“I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People.”

Mi’kma’ki – Meegmagee
Mi’kmaq/Mi’kmaw - Meegmaw
Wolastoqiyik – Woolastuk
Definitions:
Mi’kma’ki – Ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People (NS, NB, PEI, Gaspe of Quebec)

WE ARE A NUT/TREE NUT, SEAFOOD & EGG AWARE SCHOOL:
**This means that we have students/staff at BCS with severe allergies and sensitivities.
- Within our school community there are several students who have a potentially life-threatening allergy (anaphylaxis) to foods, predominantly to peanuts/tree nuts, shellfish, and eggs.
Nuts/Tree Nuts: This includes almond, cashew, hazelnut, pistachio, etc.
Egg Allergy: Including, but not limited to egg salad, egg salad sandwiches, and boiled eggs with your child.
Seafood: This includes shellfish and some types of fish.
- We feel the best way to reduce the risk of accidental exposure to these students is to respectfully ask for the co-operation of the parents/guardians within this school community to talk to your children about severe food allergies and please follow the below avoidance strategies:
- Eat only food which they have brought from home unless it is packaged, clearly labelled and approved by their parents.
- Wash hands with soap and water before and after eating.
- Not share food, utensils or containers.
- Place food on a napkin or wax paper rather than in direct contact with a desk or table.
We encourage you to create an account in order to receive notices. Items you will be able to pay for online are: cafeteria meals and snacks, student supplies fee (grades P-3 and jr high), class trips, etc. Please create your account over the summer !
Food Banks/options:
BCS recognizes that this can be difficult times for families financially. Please reach out to us if you need support as we have access to services that can help students/families. If we don't have them, we can always work to point folks in the right direction.
